18*3 + 3 = 57

57*4 + 4 = 232

232*5 + 5 = 1165

1165*6 + 6 = 6996

so 228 is wrong

7*1+1=8, 8*2+2=18, 18*3+3=57, 57*4+4=232, So, 228 is wrong number in the series
